A comprehensive checkup of your dog to ensure they remain happy and healthy.
Our veterinary team at Fairview Animal Hospital may recommend a urinalysis to identify if there is an infection or inflammation in the urinary tract. A urinalysis is essential for comprehensive evaluation of kidney function and includes physical, chemical and microscopic evaluation of urine. We can run a urinalysis in-house with results usually available within 30 minutes, and we can send the urine out to our Idexx laboratory for more detailed testing when necessary.
Dogs have exposure to numerous parasites in their day-to-day life. These include things like roundworm, hookworm, and whipworm among others. These parasites can cause weight loss, vomiting and diarrhea, and overall poor health. Some dogs may not have symptoms, but may still be infected and able to pass the parasite along to other animals and humans. Many worms are zoonotic and pose a particular threat to the very young and very old people the dog encounters. Many species of worm do not pass as adults in the stool, and only the microscopic eggs are shed, so the only way to find them is with a professional fecal analysis via microscope. Knowing if your dog is infected and if so, with which species, allows your veterinary care team to put together the most effective deworming protocol for your pet.
Your Veterinarian will discuss the results of the urinalysis with you and decide the best course of treatment and comfort for your dog.
